Eucalyptus viminalis

ribbon gum, manna gum

A large, fast growing tree reaching a height of 55m. Rough grey-brown bark at the base of the trunk, smooth, mostly white bark above. The upper branches shed bark in long ribbons, often left hanging from the tree.


origin	NSW, ACT, Vic, Tas, SA.
cultural notes	Prefers moist fertile soils in full sun. Drier conditions will stunt the growth of the tree.
tolerates	Frost tolerant, moderately drought tolerant.
flowering season	Summer and Autumn.
flower colour	Egg-shaped buds are occuring in clusters are followed by small white flowers. The fruit are round with 3 or 4 projecting valves.
foliage colour	The adult leaves are glossy dark green, pendant, lance-shaped and 20cm long. The juvenile leaves are shorter and a dull green.
width	up to 10m
height	up to 55m
plant spacing	400cm apart
recommended uses	A good fast growing shade tree for large gardens and parkland. Habitat for koalas, possums and birds.
