Allocasuarina littoralis

black she-oak

An erect, small to medium sized tree growing to 10m in height. It has ascending branches and the foliage is made up of greyish-green needle-like branchlets. It has dark grey-brown, deeply fissured bark on the trunk.


origin	NSW, Vic, Tas, Qld.
cultural notes	Hardy and adaptable to most climates and well drained soils. Prefers full sun to light shade.
tolerates	Tolerant of drought, frost and salt spray.
flowering season	Winter.
flower colour	The male and female flowers occur on different plants (dioecious). Male flowers are dark brown flower spikes, female flowers are red. Small fruiting cones are produced in clusters on the female plants.
foliage colour	The foliage is made up of grey-green needle like branchlets. The true leaves are reduced to tiny teeth-like scales at regular intervals along the branchlets.

plant spacing	200cm apart
recommended uses	Fast growing and ornamental, suitable as a street tree or shade tree.
